Training Programs

In order to qualify for certification, an applicant must have completed a training or experience requirement. For the training program option, applicants must have completed an ACLAM-approved formal laboratory animal training program of at least 2 years duration following receipt of the veterinary medical degree.

Applicant selection for laboratory animal/comparative medicine training programs for 2017 will be managed using the matching program administered by the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians (AAVC).  Applicants must submit their applications and upload required materials to the VIRMP site between October 14, 2016 and November 6, 2016.  Applicants must rank the programs in which they have interest no later than January 20, 2017.  Match results will be posted on February 13, 2017. Details on the matching process are described in detail on the VIRMP site (www.virmp.org).  Additional details regarding the VIRMP application process can be found on the ASLAP Career Development webpage (http://www.aslap.org/careers).

Important Note: The application deadline for laboratory animal/comparative medicine training programs is earlier than other internship and residency programs to ensure sufficient time for programs to schedule interviews with prospective candidates. Applicants should contact their references and registrar to ensure they submit their letters of support and transcripts ahead of the November 6, 2016 deadline.
