This role creates a plan for scientific partnerships in Asia in collaboration with global regulatory leader and WWCM site heads, and evolves the plan in accordance with changes with the TA strategies; leads Level III project within Focus Area; contributes to goal setting for Global Science and Technology group; oversees external collaborations for new in vivo technology platforms, animal models or training programs; partners with Global Science and Technology leadership in the development of key talent; and influences the external environment through thought leadership and active engagement with professional societies and academic institutions.
The purpose of this role is to participate in the WWCM Asia Research Strategy, with focus on coordination of virtual study support, in vivo technologies, and laboratory animal care and welfare; leverage WWCM in vivo skills for maximizing animal care and welfare while contributing to the advancement of Research and Development partners’ portfolios; embrace the globalization, harmonization, and standardization philosophy and achieve increased efficiencies in WWCM’s development, application, and delivery of in vivo technologies and models; continually develop leadership and scientific excellence within WWCM through provision of mentorship and career development opportunities; and develop effective partnerships in pursuit of science outside of our walls with academic units in the form of training programs, outposts, and in vivo technologies such as imaging.
A DVM, VMD, MD or equivalent and advanced training in hypothetical-based research, in vivo models, and technologies – board certification in laboratory animal medicine or other relevant discipline is required, as is knowledge of the drug discovery process and the practice of laboratory animal medicine in industry and a record of managerial and leadership ability.

Candidates must have experience in a large multi-national company (although Healthcare industry knowledge is useful, someone with a good grasp of alternative industries could also be beneficial to the role) and experience in a data-focused or technical support role. A Bachelor's degree in a related area; healthcare industry knowledge; experience working in a regulated environment and knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11l; and a good understanding of the pharmaceutical drug development process are desirable. Research Veterinarian

The Audubon Nature Institute is seeking a qualified, highly motivated individual to serve as a Research Veterinarian to participate in the design and conduct of scientific investigations and manage the medical care of the animal collections of the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species and the Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Participate in and support ongoing IACUC approved research projects as well as be involved in the experimental design, approval, planning and execution of specific research projects by ACRES scientists.
- Plan and design own research studies as part of ACRES scientific team and, working with Audubon Development Department, seek funding to support these studies.
- As ACRES Research Veterinarian and as part of ACRES scientific team, support surgeries, animal restraint and all animal related projects that involve research.
- Provide comprehensive health care for the animal collections of the Audubon Nature Institute, particularly the animal collections of the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species and the Freeport-McMoRan Audubon Species Survival Center, in accordance with standards set forth by Audubon and noted in the Guidelines for Zoo Veterinary Medical Programs and Veterinary Hospitals of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians. This medical care includes, but is not limited to: diagnosis and treatment, preventative medicine, quarantine, disease surveillance and containment, necropsy, and periodic review of diet and husbandry practices.
- Work under the supervision and direction of ACRES Director in consultation with Audubon’s Senior Veterinarian.
- Maintain IACUC and AZA research and animal care standards and protocols and serve on ACRES IACUC.
- Manage and maintain complete medical records consistent with professional standards through MedARKS.
- Participate in an emergency call schedule and respond to animal emergencies as needed to all Audubon facilities.
- Supervise and train animal healthcare staff and volunteers.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate all residents, interns, veterinary preceptors, and international professional trainees during their rotations.
- Publish investigational results, where appropriate, in reputable journals.
- Work in conjunction with Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine to develop and provide course materials, practical sessions, and lectures pertaining to zoo medicine in collaboration with Audubon Nature Institute’s veterinary team.
- Participate in continuing education seminars and workshops as necessary to maintain appropriate standards of care and to sustain a license to practice in the state of Louisiana.
- Participate in local, regional, and international conservation projects in support of Audubon’s mission statement.
Applicants must:
- have graduated from an established program in veterinary medicine and have a basic interest in research.
- have a minimum of 2 years clinical experience in treating non-domestic animals, including at least 1 year in a zoological setting.
- become licensed in the State of Louisiana within 6 months from the start of employment.
Board certification or eligibility in the American College of Zoological Medicine or the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and/or a Master of Science degree is preferred.

The Animal Health Care Section (AHCS) of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is recruiting for the position of Laboratory Animal Veterinarian. The AHCS is responsible for all aspects of the care and use of laboratory animals in the intramural research programs of the NINDS and the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD). The AHCS operates three animal facilities on the NIH Bethesda campus and one facility in Rockville, MD, and is currently staffed by four veterinarians (three American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine [ACLAM] diplomates) and ten veterinary technicians.
The applicant must be a veterinarian licensed to practice in the U.S.A., and preferably will have training and experience in the practice of laboratory animal medicine. ACLAM board certification or eligibility is highly desired. Duties include provision of clinical care to rodent and nonhuman primate models used in neurologic and auditory research, training of vivarium staff and investigative personnel, review of proposed animal studies, participation in the planning and implementation of an extensive animal health surveillance program, and contribution to the ongoing evaluation and refinement of the NINDS/NIDCD animal care and use program. - Maintain an active involvement in professional veterinary pathology organizations (STP, ACVP).
Requirements:

The Johns Hopkins Department of Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology is accepting applications for our four-year postdoctoral program in laboratory animal medicine for a veterinarian who wishes to pursue a career as a laboratory animal medicine veterinarian in a research setting. In the remaining years, emphasis shifts towards basic or translational research supervised by Molecular and Comparative Pathobiology faculty or other faculty within the University. Research Animal Veterinarians

The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is seeking candidates to fill two permanent research animal veterinarian positions and one candidate to fill the position of interim assistant research animal veterinarian, with a salary range of $55,000 to $115,000 depending upon qualifications. The WNPRC is an AAALAC accredited facility that houses approximately 1,400 nonhuman primates (rhesus macaques, cynomolgus macaques, and common marmosets). The successful applicant will work with a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, animal care staff, and investigators from a variety of research units.
The successful applicants will be responsible for providing daily medical care to nonhuman primates utilized in biomedical research. Duties will include conducting physical exams, diagnosing and treating injury and disease, performing dental prophylaxis, performing or assisting in clinical and research surgical procedures, and ensuring the implementation of preventative health plans. In addition, the applicant will provide research support for scientists utilizing nonhuman primate models of reproduction, infectious disease, aging, and neurodegenerative disorders. The successful applicant will also participate in on-call rotations for the campus wide Research Animal Resources Center which provides veterinary care for a variety of laboratory animal species (rodents, birds, fish, dogs, cats, horses, and nonhuman primates).
The 4-6 month interim position offers an excellent opportunity for veterinarians interested in expanding their experience base and obtaining exposure to laboratory animal species especially nonhuman primates. There is also a possibility that this position could evolve into a full-time position at the WNPRC.
Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA accredited school of veterinary medicine or successful completion of ECFVG program, and must be eligible for licensure and accreditation by the State of Wisconsin. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, with nonhuman primate experience preferred but not required. The Department of Population Health of the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral training program in Laboratory Animal Medicine. The program is designed to meet the training requirements for ACLAM certification and prepares veterinarians for careers in biomedical research that enhances human and animal health and wellbeing. An M.S. degree in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences is awarded with successful completion of the program. The first year of the program consists of clinical training paired with core didactic learning. While some clinical responsibilities and didactic training will continue into the second year, the focus shifts to mentored research and completion of a research project of the trainee’s design. Research opportunities are available in several areas including infectious disease, pathology, physiology, molecular biology or population health. Trainees have the option to remain enrolled after completing the 2-year program to complete advanced degrees, either an MPH and/or a Ph.D. in a variety of basic sciences. Join us on the edge of discovery as a Clinical Veterinarian. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the world’s largest medical research facility, has a challenging position now available in the Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR), Veterinary Medicine Branch (VMB).
The VMB provides veterinary medicine and technical support to research animals; consults and collaborates with the intramural research community and their staff of the veterinary aspects of protocol design; provides pharmacy and nutrition services for the NIH laboratory animal community; provides environmental enrichment professional services and consultations to the NIH community; and manages and maintains a centralized surgical, intensive care and radiology service to support NIH intramural animal protocols.
Working as a Clinical Veterinarian for the NIH, requires expertise in laboratory animal medicine and a working knowledge of regulatory requirements for the care and use of animals in research. Major responsibilities include the provision of clinical care, direction of technical staff, protocol review and facility operations. This position requires a strong working knowledge of laboratory animal medicine, and the ability to work with a wide spectrum of individuals in a number of capacities. You will assist the attending veterinarian care for an average census of 1000 primates. Practical experience with primate medicine is desirable.
Qualifications for the Clinical Veterinarian include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA). Candidates must have successfully completed National Veterinary Board certification, be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, and have one year of progressively responsible professional veterinary experience. New graduates with a strong interest in laboratory animal medicine will be considered. Graduates of veterinary schools not AVMA accredited must have Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates certification.
Salary ranges from $74,503 - $140,880 and a full package of Civil Service benefits is available including retirement, health and life insurance, leave, and Thrift Savings Plan (401k equivalent). The successful candidate will receive excellent postgraduate training in veterinary medicine, surgery, pathology, regulatory compliance, research support, and management of nonhuman primates utilized in an academic research environment. West Virginia University (WVU) is seeking a veterinarian for the position of Director, Office of Laboratory Animal Resources. The Director, as the Attending Veterinarian, will have clinical and managerial responsibilities for the animal facilities that house a wide-range of research animal species at both the Health Science Center and Arts and Sciences campuses, including a barrier rodent facility. The Director is expected to provide medical and surgical care for the animals housed in these facilities and to advise on colony management and animal health. The position will also require running quality assurance, sentinel, and diagnostic pathology programs. In addition, the Director will participate in planning and implementing the ongoing expansion of animal holding space on the Health Sciences Center campus. The Director will also have the opportunity to recruit an associate veterinarian.
Administrative duties of the Director include managing the veterinary and animal care technician staff of OLAR, along with office personnel. The Director is expected to serve on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and to provide clinical oversight to this committee. The Director will maintain the facility’s AAALAC accreditation, assure compliance with USDA and PHS regulations and guidelines, and work with administrators and facilities personnel to design new animal holding space and identify equipment to best fit the needs of the growing research program and the animals’ welfare. The Director is also expected to serve on institutional committees (e.g.- Biohazard, IRB, and/or Chemical Hygiene) where proven expertise would be appropriate.

The Department of Comparative Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania invites applications from laboratory animal veterinarians for up to two tenure-track faculty positions. One successful candidate’s primary role will be to provide clinical oversight of rodent medicine and surgical services at an AAALAC-accredited animal research program. Approximately 50% effort will be devoted to management of a rodent barrier facility, oversight of production of genetically-altered mice and rederivation services, development of breeding, genotyping, and cryopreservation services, and assisting with development of rodent models for biomedical research. Additional responsibilities will include teaching residents in an ACLAM-certified training program in Laboratory Animal Medicine, training investigators in humane care and use of research animals, assisting with regulatory activities, developing clinical or collaborative research, and other scholarly activities. The second position will have clinical responsibilities for multiple animal species.
The Penn State College of Medicine has an AAALAC-accredited animal program with 72,000 nsf of animal facilities and a daily census of approximately 14,000 animals. Species include rodents, rabbits, non-human primates, ruminants, swine, dogs, cats, and zebrafish. Areas of research include medical device development, cancer, neuroscience, inflammatory bowel disease, immunology, diabetes, and other disciplines. The College of Medicine is currently engaged in an expansion of research facilities and recently announced recruitment of over 30 scientists and physician-scientists to fill new faculty positions. The College of Medicine/Hershey Medical Center received $98.5 million in externally funded grants and contracts during the past year.
One candidate will fill a newly created faculty position in the Department of Comparative Medicine and will join an existing faculty of seven. Among the current faculty, three are ACLAM Diplomates and two are ACVP Diplomates (one is double-boarded). Support services include necropsy facilities and histology, microbiology, and clinical pathology laboratories. The ACLAM-certified residency is a two-year program that also fulfills the requirements for a Master of Science degree in Laboratory Animal Medicine. Typically, two new residents enter the program each summer. The Department of Comparative Medicine provides veterinary services for a small zoological collection of North American wildlife at Hersheypark and for the research animal facility within the Hershey Center for Applied Research, a state-of-the-art center for science and technology located adjacent to the Hershey Medical Center.

The Responsibilities: The veterinarian will be responsible for the administrative and clinical aspects involved in operating a state-of-the-art laboratory animal program. This includes program development, training of staff and investigators and supervising the clinical veterinarians and staff in the procurement of research animals, providing their clinical care and assuring their psychological well-being. In addition, the veterinarian will be responsible for the administrative and regulatory aspects of the animal research program: AAALAC accreditation, USDA and New York State oversight, monitoring of new research procedures, and the veterinary review of research protocols as a member of the IACUC. Responsibilities include providing clinical oversights and veterinary care to a wide range of research animal species; serving on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee; assisting faculty and investigative staff with development of animal models and research use protocol forms; assisting in the training programs for investigators, research staff, and animal care staff; assisting units in maintaining and/or achieving AAALAC accreditation; providing surgical, post-operative care, and technical guidance to researchers and animal care units. Primary duties are clinical service to the Medical School, Graduate School (including the Regional Primate Center), the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, Letters & Science and College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Qualified applicants will have a DVM/VMD degree along with strong interpersonal communication skills. Applicants must be licensed in at least one state. Experience in laboratory animal medicine is desirable. ACLAM board certification or eligibility is desirable. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. A clinical faculty appointment can be negotiated.
