The Value of AAALAC Accreditation

The American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) recognizes the value of accreditation by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). Good laboratory animal care programs are developed and managed by teams of professionals to meet high standards of animal welfare, diverse regulatory standards and dynamic, progressive research programs. Through confidential, independent assessment of all aspects of the animal care and use program, AAALAC assists institutions in meeting these goals. The peer review process evaluates the institutional program using high quality international standards. AAALAC accreditation and advice from AAALAC's team of laboratory animal science experts assists institutions in ensuring a commitment to and an achievement of excellence. ACLAM acknowledges that this independent assessment publicly validates the maintenance of a humane, scientifically administered laboratory animal care and use program.
